Our Healthcare System is Failing People with Disabilities

Our healthcare system is failing Americans with disabilities, forcing people who already face serious challenges to fight for the care and support they need. Roughly 1 in 4 American adults lives with a disability, yet many struggle to afford essential healthcare. Applying for disability benefits and qualifying for services can mean months of paperwork, long delays, and confusing requirements, only to be denied assistance. Even those who qualify can lose access to critical benefits over a missed signature or administrative mistake. Instead of making healthcare easier to access, Houchin voted for legislation cutting roughly $1 trillion from Medicaid over the next decade. These cuts threaten the services people with disabilities depend on and put additional pressure on hospitals and healthcare providers across Southern Indiana. People with disabilities should not have to spend months fighting a broken system just to receive the care they need. They deserve dignity, stability, and the freedom to live their lives without constantly worrying about losing healthcare. When I get to Congress, I will fight for Medicare for All so healthcare is available to everyone, regardless of disability, income, or employment status. No one should have to prove they are sick enough or disabled enough just to see a doctor.
